Pine Island is not home to white, sandy beaches or luxurious resorts, yet the simplistic charm of this nature abundant island tucked into Lee County’s northwest corner, has provoked a tourist frenzy in the recent years.

Surrounded mostly by mangroves, Pine Island stretches 17 miles from north to south and up to 2 miles wide. The six communities of Pine Island consist of Matlacha, Pine Island Center, St. James City, Bokeelia and Pineland.

Mostly known for its fishing, boating and farming, Pine Island is now becoming an artistic and cultural community. Numerous artists and writers now call Pine Island their home, inspiring the many art galleries and museums throughout the island.
