Sarasota, Florida Tops Barbara Corcoran’s List of the 10 Best Real Estate Markets in the US

In case you missed the Today show on October 6th, 2009 Barbara Corcoran, real estate expert, announced the top 10 places to buy a home in United States.

1. Sarasota, Florida

2. San Francisco, California

3. Lansing, Michigan

4. Marietta, Georgia

5. Grand Rapids, Michigan

6. St. Petersburg, Florida

7. Naperville, Illinois

8. Trenton, New Jersey

9. St. Louis, Missouri

10. Saginaw, Michigan

Of course, that is exciting news for those who own in these cities. The reason these 10 cities made this list is because they have been beaten up pretty badly over the last few years. Prices in all of these areas have been hit hard. However, things are starting to look at little.

It appears that the Sarasota, Florida market appears to bottoming. In September 2009 sales of Sarasota homes soared over the same time period in 2008. Total property sales stood at 554 in September 2009, compared to 409 total sales in September 2008. Inventories are declining with sales rising. The increase in home sales is all a function of price. As prices drop buyers are feeling more comfortable that a bottom is near or here.

Pending Sarasota homes have now exceeded the 800 level for seven out of nine months in 2009, after lingering in the 400 to 500 per month range for much of the previous two years. This is a strong indicator that the sales number for October and November will be positive.

As Sarasota, Florida get closer to its busy winter buying season the number of Sarasota homes for sale will most likely decrease as sales accelerate. Savvy buyers with a long time horizon for owning will end up buying the choice properties.
